Ken and Tracey McClymont after being awarded the 'Highly Commended Safe and Sound Award' at the Dudley Volunteer Awards 2011. Nominated for their work with Dudley Centre for Inclusive Living (CIL).
Their citation reads:
Ken and Tracy McClymont are a Woodsetton couple who give countless hours to supporting disabled people and carers in Dudley borough. This dedicated duo proudly speak up about issues that they think will improve the safety and security and quality of life, for many local disabled people and carers.
Ken and Tracy not only belong to Offsight, a forum for visually impaired people, Ken is also a representative for Action for Disabled People and Carers (or ADC) offering his wide understanding of social care issues.
The couple are both avid campaigners and through this passion have recently founded a user led organisation, which aims to represent the views of disabled people across the borough.
The organisation is called Dudley CIL which stands for Centre for Inclusive Living and Tracy and Ken have recently had some great news!
In addition to a recent Lottery award to research the experience of local disabled people, they have just been awarded £30,000 from Skills for Care. This grant will enable Dudley CIL to develop training for disabled people who employ personal assistants. The aim is to improve relationships and help them disabled people to get the most out of their personal budgets.
